My chicken has had an eye issue for a week now. She's been scratching it very hard and I'm worried she has wry neck because of the vigorous scratching. She is a year old tomorrow (finally did the math correctly). I'm already treating her eye with terramycin and I'm giving her poly vi sol without iron in her water for the possibility of it being a vitamin deficiency. She is at the bottom of the pecking order so I'm concerned that could be part of the issue (not eating as much or got pecked in the eye). How can I treat wry neck that could be caused by an injury? And how much selenium do I need to give a chicken to help absorb the poly vi sol? Any kind of help with either of her issues would be very helpful. Thanks in advance!!

If your chicken had wry neck, you'd be wondering if she was possessed. They act in a very bizarre manner, spending most of their time looking at something above them (call star gazing) or walking backward.

The treatment for rye neck is vitamin E and selenium. It doesn't hurt to give these vitamins, just go easy on the selenium, a tiny bit is enough, if you still believe that she has wry neck.

She can walk forward a little bit but she usually just sits with her neck going crazy and upside down. She can only tilt her head to the side and look up with her right eye (good eye)

And do you know if wry neck hurts? If it does, can I give her a baby aspirin?

It does sound as if she has rye neck, all right. I don't know if it's painful. A half a baby aspirin won't do any harm. You can give it morning and again at night. She should respond quickly to the vitamins.

This is the 2nd or 3rd day of her being on poly vi sol without iron and first day of giving her a little bit of selenium in wet bread. No change. Do I need to get something else? I'll start the baby aspirin tomorrow morning. We don't have any right now and all the stores are closed at this time of night

This is her at the moment. I had to open her beak and put a little bit of wet cat food and wet bread. She isn't walking around. Just sits there and her head is always sporadically moving around.

Do I just buy vitamin e gel tablets and open one up and give it to her? If so how much of it?
