Hey everyone, so i decided to hatch out new chicks to add to my flock. I have 2 polish hens and i wanted a silkie. I got 10 eggs and hatched them out about a year ago. Only two of them hatched though. And sadly one passed at 5 months. Ive thought that they are a bit different since they hatched, they seemed too round if that makes sense. Eventually after the other passed (the one that passed wry tail is not as severe as the other one), i discovered this one was a roo. He is a really anxious roo though, dont like people, scared of everything. His wry tail got worse and worse over time and he has trouble running (he trips on his own foot). He also gets bullied by the hens a lot. Just a stare and hes gone. The bullying has toned down since he was first introduced but he still hated being near the hens (i can tell that he is distressed since in the coop, he will stay as far away as he can). Im not sure if i should give him some special treatment and separate him. His back is bended upwards a bit and to the side and his wings cant really perch on his body properly)

It sounds like he may have some birth defects such as kinky back (spondylopathy) and the wry tail which may be hereditary. Those are not things that you want to pass on to his chicks. Since he is being picked in, I might separate him in a dog crate with his own food and water, but keep him inside the coop near the hens. If the bullying, is less, you could leave him with them, and make sure that he is getting enough to eat and drink since he is scared of them. A chicken vitamin supplement might be helpful for a week or two.

Oh that might be it, he has a lot of trouble walking, though he has stopped being bullied too much now. Usually i only hear about kinky back in broilers and meat birds, i can post some pictures if it helps.

That might be helpful. I have only seen a few threads where there were good photos.
