Hello all!

In a Langshan chick from this year, I've noticed something odd. I have one chick that appears to have a wry tail. I noticed it at 2 weeks old but thought "I'll give it some time, it may just be off." Now here I am 12 weeks later and the chick's tail is obviously "off" but I can't tell if it's wry or if it's just lazy. The father has a tail that gets lazy at some times, but most of the time it is up and straight and looking awesome. This chick though...and of course, it's the ONE pullet that came out blue.

What would you do? Would you breed the pullet, cull it from your flock or wait and see if it changes?

The mother does not have a wry tail so I'm assuming the tail came from the father. Would you simply keep breeding until you got another blue pullet from the black x blue breeding of the parents?

I'm not too impressed with the chick, but she still has a LONG way to grow. I do have a blue cockerel that is staying here until he dies. He's excellent! This pullet...not so much.

i am guessing that in a lazy tail the bird can hold it in the correct position when it wants to and the wry tail is stuck in the wrong position at all times? if you are in doubt why not give the pullet time to mature a little? you could always cull later......

If you have reservations about her, don't use her as a breeder. Try to find her a home as a layer.

Try to get rid of her asap so you won't end up putting alot of time and $$ into her.

Don't create problems for yourself. You have a nice blue boy and more than enough black girls probably. Use them. I know you know this.

I'll just add her to the cull list. I sell my culls because someone else may want to take the time to use them. I've got several calls on them...just wanted to use her and get a splash male down the road...
