wtb- hatching eggs, cheap. (ME)

<<I keep my humidity between 30-35% for the first 18 days.>>

Wow that's low. Dry incubation, huh? I tried it one but had a poor hatch. Most people in the incubating section use around 50%.

I just had my first hatch. I bought eggs at my local farmers market after asking if they were fertile. I paid 3.50 a dozen. Kept my humidity near 30% for the first 18 days, increased to 65 to 70%. I set 19, 1 didn't develop, 3 didn't hatch, 1 died after pip & 1 died after hatch. 13 out of 19 is pretty good considering I had NO clue what I was doing!

Anyhow, I'd check the farmers market & craigslist if you think your Post Office or carrier are the problem. Do you candle to see if they're developing at all?

I send 30 eggs shipped for 20 bucks.....they are a good mix with silkies frizzles, welsummers, cochin, cuckoo maran, RIR, and sizzles

if you would like 30 eggs send 20.00 to

[email protected]

thanks

I agree, figuring out what you can change to "perfect"things is probably the first thing to do.

Where are you in Maine. I have mixed breeds, and the eggs are fertile-- I'm in Aroostook County-- you can pick them up here for what I sell them for as "eating eggs" $2.00 a dozen ( I don't ship, sorry)

Hi- I'm in Western Maine. I have fertile Americana X Black Star fertile eggs- you're welcome to just come and get some. These are eggs we use for eating, but they should produce a fun mix of all purpose Easter Egger offspring.

Other suggestion: Farmington Farmer's union (for instance) is taking order for day old chicks for about $1.50/chick pick up in mid May and mid June. I know that Paris Farmer's union and many grain shops also do day old chick orders this time of year. Good luck!

yes i do raise the humidity around 65% last few days. most of the eggs always seem to be scrambled or the air cell is detatched or scrambled...so nothing i do seems to work

ashley,
maybe run an ad on craiglist that you are looking for hatching eggs near milo or as far as you are willing to travel. as for my chickens and I'm in central maine too, my rooster is now just starting to do the chicken dance with the girls so depending on where you are getting eggs from, they might not be fertile yet or the postal employees may not be so kind to the shipping boxes.

What kind of chickens do you have. I have Buffs, golden comets and, sliver laced wanyedottes.

If you can find me a rooster I will give you some eggs. I have 6 red star hens that started laying last month. I live in Old Town.
