I have found this organization called World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms.
It is an organization that is devoted to connecting volunteers to organic farms around the globe in exchange for food and lodging.

I am curious to see if anyone on BYC has any experience doing this or anything similar to it.
Since I am seriously considering doing it in about 9 months.

I have been a WWOOF volunteer and a host - I think it's brilliant. You can learn a lot about all sorts of aspects of farming and sustainable living and you can meet some really cool, creative people. You have to join WWOOF in the country you want to volunteer or host in. I would definitely recommend having some sort of dialogue with the person you might be hooking up with before you agree to go there, so you both know what to expect and you won't get any unwelcome surprises. Give it a go!
