I purchased a Wyandotte hen at point of lay. I was told she is a Blue Laced Red Wyandotte, but I don't have a lot of confidence in the identification skills of the person I got her from. She is a very sweet hen but I am curious as to how she is Blue Laced Red. If I was identifying her variety, I would call her a Red Laced White. I don't see any blue or silver on her. So how are Wyandottes identified? It sounds like the varieties come from the color of the "lace", but what is that? Do they breed to type? I will attempt to attach a pic when I can get to my home computer.

Post a pic then we could probably help you.

This is an example of a young blue laced wyandotte. It’s not actual blue. Just a lighter “blue” gray.

Here are the pics of what is thought to be a Blue Laced Red. She has the bare yellow legs and the rose comb of a Wyandotte. Also kind of bossy, without being a bully toward the other hens (15). She has never been around a rooster. She is right at 12 months old, and has been a good layer. At least 5 eggs/week.

I can see where you can get that idea. Beautiful hen and it looks pretty close to certain pics j googled. Not a very good representation but looks hatchery quality. Still a good looking hen the feathering isn't just quite right
