Wyandotte (pullet) comb style

I'll try to get pictures when my husband comes home. Can't hold a chicken and take pics with my ipad. ;) It will also help me get a better look.

You are correct in identifying the comb types. It is rare to have a Wyandotte with a single comb but it can happen, especially if the genetics are not great(mixed breed). Are all those birds the same age though? Because that is a fair amount of development and red in those combs for 7 1/2 weeks…I would watch closely for other male traits, although wyandottes can sometimes be trickier to distinguish. (When I had a couple I was sure that one was a boy practically until she suddenly laid an egg due to the huge difference in comb sizes😆)

Yes, they are all the same age. Got them as fuzzy chicks.
I hope none are boys. LOL

It does. Thank you. Most of the time the comb wasn't pink so to me it looked like she didn't have one. It looked like a bald patch with dry skin, if that makes sense.
I comb over Wyandotte posts for hours and hours. Then I go stare at mine for hours and hours. It’s fun, frustrating, and fascinating to see the development.

Single comb?
Single combs pop up in hatchery Wyandottes quite often.

Breeding rose comb only can reduce fertility as it slows the motility in sperm after several generations.

Since rose is dominant to straight, some (less passionate breeders) keep a straight comb in their flock.

Also those that got one copy of straight and one of rose will display rose even thought they carry a single copy of the straight in their background.. bred together with another that's doing the same thing.. maybe 50% would have straight combs.. Noting that most breeds we have today including Wynadottes were created by breeding other breeds together to produce it so it's entirely possible for some funky heritage to pop out way down the line.

When not for show or breeding, it's nice to have a little variety. Cute birds! :thumbsup

Also you are correct that the rose comb itself can have quite the variation.. I think there may be 3 different phenotypes that can appear. (observable differences)
