Buff Orpingtons are good layers. Our typically give us 3 (occasionally 4 eggs per hen per week). The most aggressive chickens are the various game chickens. Mediterranean breeds (Leghorns, ect.) are good layers but can be aggressive, and are definitely high strung and flighty. Mine always screamed bloody murder whenever I handled them (it's why I don't have them anymore). Rhode Island Reds are also good layers, but can be aggressive (particularly the roosters).

My Wyandottes have been very good layers, with one laying nearly 300 eggs her first year, and the other laying about 250. They continue to lay well, even though they are now 4 years old. There eggs are medium size and light brown.

My Wyandottes have had excellent temperaments. They are docile around me and very personable. They can be a little standoffish with other birds and usually assert themselves highly in the pecking order.

They have survived temperatures around 100 degrees and below 0 degrees, quite easily. Because of their small combs, they don't get frostbite.

I've really enjoyed my Wyandottes!
