would that be pure breed? I am not familiar with this breed but SOP calls for a rose comb.

Yes, it's just an undesirable/disqualifying trait.

So #2 is an imperfect non-show Wyandotte cockerel, and definitely not an Easter-Egger then, right?

Another question -- when do the silver-laced feathers come in?

I feel kind of gruesome or selfish asking this... because I'm wondering if we will get the beautiful feathers before we harvest the cockerels? The Wyandotte boys seem to be the most belligerent so far, and I think they might be the first to go in the pot... but I'd also love to harvest those lovely feathers!

[I talk big but we haven't had experience harvesting our own chickens yet -- only had backyard beloved pets before -- so I'm sure it will be even harder than I fear harvesting that first one... even if he is a big bully. Maybe it will even feel worse if I am not crazy about him because I'll feel like I'm being vindictive... ugh!!]

We might separate the roos into a temporary bachelor pad to delay the inevitable...

SO lovely!! And how are their personalities? In our backyard days our sweetest hens were Columbian Wyandottes. Now we have these 7 SLW boys & girls (among 24 chickens total), and even though all of our chickens are loveable and fun, the Wyandottes seem to have more obnoxious moments than the others...

I love them, lots of funny little moments. They hate wild birds and chase them off. They are very curious with my english bulldog, they come right up to her face and stare or follow her around. Big personalities, but in a good way. My sweetest hens are the olive eggers.
