Yahoo homepage news... "Hen in Mexican village lays rare eggs...."

Not only has this story gone national, it's crossed the Atlantic and got covered here too. It's quite amazing given that green / blue eggs are sold in all the major supermarkets here - for a premium

Wow. Just because something is common and known to us as chicken owners, it doesn't mean that other cultures or countries know it all.
I bet there are a lot of things in this world that are unknown to us here on BYC, but are common knowledge to others.
Before I had chickens, I didn't know that there was such a thing as a green or blue egglaying hen.

The reporter should have done the research before making this international news and looking silly. A quick Google search would have cleared that up. I understand that the lady owning probably doesn't even own a computer let alone internet access, but and American reporter has no excuse at all.

Maybe a better story is the fact that lady received hens as a care package, most likely from Heifer International , and might boost charities like Heifer's funds a bit, so they can send more green egg laying hens to families in need.

I don't blame the woman for thinking she had something rare. I believe these hotshot news agencies have the tools for research. Why spend a small fortune to report something that makes your news organization a laughing stock when the research would have took all of 5 minutes.
