Yay or nay, floor of run to keep it dry?

Particles of sand are really too small to serve the function of grit in a chicken's gizzard. If chickens are eating anything other than chicken feed, they should have access to stones/pebbles from the yard or field, or purchased chicken grit (usually granite chips).

Sand is the way to go, they are right the poo just disappears, so much easier to keep, and they love to take dust bathes in the sand

Hi, I'm in Oregon City....yeah the rain definitely gets old. I had 3 yards of sand delivered for my run, and I'm really happy with it. It rakes up so nice...I went to Home Depot and bought a large piece of what looks like fiberglass roofing for $16.00....when I get my run put together I'm going to cover it with that so I can sit in there and watch my chickens... ...It comes in red, green, dark grey, and clear.....Peggy
