yay pigeons sitting on eggs!!!!

Very frequently this time of year the first egg gets severely chilled basically "killing" the embryo. When I tried to raise birds early ( I would pair up on 2/14:love) and expect eggs about 10 to 14 days later. I would check daily and remove the first egg and replace it with a wooden egg. I had a series of shot glasses identified by pair set up on the dresser in the bedroom.

When the second egg was laid two days later, I would reintroduce egg #1 to the nest. That way both eggs would hatch. When the parents started on the next round, nestmates would keep one another warm guaranteeing a better chance of survival for early young birds.
