You can feed ducklings Chick Starter. Make sure you give them plenty of Niacin as they need 3 times as much as chicks. It's water soluable and you can pick it up at walmart for about $10 a bottle (it'll last you FOREVER). Ducklings need 10 mg of niacin per day. It's best to put 500 MG into 8 gallons of water and give them that, most of it will wind up on the ground but they should be able to get the amount they need. They will not Over Does on vitamins. This is important. If they don't have the amount of niacin they need they will have poor leg development and poor brain development. They will die.

If you feed your ducklings chick starter, make sure it's NON-medicated. :)

After reading Storey's Guide, and perhaps even The Ultimate Pet Duck Guidebook, think about their safety.

They need to be kept safe from too cold, too hot, hunger, thirst, predators, accidents, illness and poisoning. I spent a bit of time, when I was setting up my runners' day pen, using a magnet to find metals (the ones with iron) and getting rid of them before turning the ducks loose, because ducks will eat such things and get hardware disease, which is awful. I raked the ground, and picked up bits of glass, plastic and aluminum. And I had a nice, neat lawn!

A feed pan, a waterer with something to keep the splash from wetting all the bedding, bedding, source of heat, the protection of a brooder, whether that is a kiddie pool or box or puppy playpen, something to wash their heads in, good food, vitamins, gro-gel if they will be day-olds upon arrival, towels for cleaning up messes, buckets for collecting messes, something to take pictures with if possible (for uploading to Duck Forum), chick grit, niacin if you can only find chick starter feed, triple antibiotic ointment . . .
