Hey all I have a 8 month old RIR that’s been laying for about 2-3 months every single day. Today she didn’t lay an egg which seems normal given the light cycles changing and the fact that she hasn’t taken a single day off in months. I did notice that she wasn’t buzzing around with the flock which is abnormal. She didn’t run to treats which is abnormal.(another story below) and generally looking kinda frumpy, very stand offish, not moving positions a whole lot. I noticed she had some yellow diarrhea in her tail feather area below the vent. My gut told me something wasn’t right so I just took her off the roost and put her in our quarantine box. She started pecking at food immediately and took an drink (electrolyte water) right after. I checked her vent and didn’t feel any egg (last egg was yesterday)
Within 5 mins of being in the box she had a very watery mucus’ey yellow diarrhea. Pics attached
She and the other 13 birds are vaccinated against mareks and coccidiosis
She eats purina/Dumor starter 20% protein with free choice oyster shell. And I found out 20 mins ago after many searches that I’m feeding way too many treats (black soldier fly larva) a few handfuls into the yard for 14 birds about 4-6 days out of the week kinda like an evening treat. I’ll cut that back significantly.
Crop doesn’t feel tight or huge (don’t really know entirely what I’m feeling for here)
This is where I’m at and here are the pictures below.
Sidebar-Veterinary care isn’t an option, but I do have a tractor supply not too far away if anyone has any strong recommendations for treatment.
Current plan is to watch her eating and drinking on camera and reassess poop in the morning and overall demeanor. Thanks in advance for any help.
