Yesterday was a rough one

I've seen those things and some like it - sadly I don't ahve running water out at the barn or coop - Summer is fine, I just drag a hose around.

, and shoulder rubs for the sore muscles. I do not envy you... it was hard enough keeping the rabbits, ducks and chickens in fresh water, but to have goats and horses and what-all else you have?

Makes me tired just thinking about it.
We had -20 to -30 (even -35F) for about 15 days straight, and I was taking water out to the animals at least 4 times a day. Gallon jugs, mostly, but in the breeder coop I have the soda bottle waterers. I just have twice as many as I need, so while one set is thawing in the sink, the others are quickly freezing up as fast as the birds can gulp. My husband remembered his old military snowsuit... camo, of course!

... so I just step into it and zip up. Good to -35F with my birthday suit on!

Then boots, balaclava, and thick gloves... grab the 5 gallon bucket with the water bottles in it and away we go. Every hour on the hour, to check for water, eggs, and frostbite. Only lost 2 eggs to freezing. But I sure was ready for the break we finally got this last week... +30-40F! Now I'm fighting Cocci, because all the pens are standing water on ice...

Hang in there... spring will be here soon.

Thanks for the links, Chuck.

Tori - I have different sets of bottles too. I rotate them out by the fire though the day whn it is freezing.

TSC has some of their heavy winter gear for 40% off. I got me a pair of cover all pants.

It was blasting cold yesterday. Steve put hand warmers in his boots and pants pockets.

I've been bringing my stuff into the basement to thaw, but at the rate they are freezing the ones in the basement aren't even thawed by the time the ones I take out are frozen.

YOu should try some of those rubbery dishes, you can just knock the ice out and re-fill. I have a few of those, easy and fast, there have only been a few times I was not able to get the ice out - then I just add water on top and leave it for a while - hubby has to rescue me sometimes with an axe!
