(Yet another) Beginner's questions:

I think it is because mine were hatched and raised for months by a bunch of 7th graders. I can just see those punks tapping on the cage every time they walked by

sorry to say but it has nothing to do with the white if you put birds in too early (as in when they're not wiling to squat for a roo) they will kill them if you don't remove them asap. You really have to watch when you introduce new birds or you'll have issues like this. Sometimes you can be lucky putting 5 week olds in with adult coturnix, other times you won't (i know you didnt say an age but just giving an example). It's best to only introduce hens to an established breeding pen if the hen is old enough and already squatting for roos otherwise she'll get scalped and worse. If that's the case then i'd not have any A & Ms because they'd all be killed.

well monarc your probably right. the ones that hatched in with the browns usually lasted longer but alway got beat up and bloody way before any of the brown hens looked worn out.(then culled) but i did buy 10 a&m one time and threw them into a breeding cage and it was an overnight blood bath..kinda left a bad taste in my mouth (dont like to see birds kill each other) so i have avoided mixing the two since.....

I can understand that it's always hard introducing new birds. Shelleyd when she introduces new birds puts htem all together in a new pen so they are all confused together. My method is to just wait until they are old enough and then normally theres no icky blood baths. I'm not a big fan of the A & Ms to be honest, I only raise them because they are good to keep around to produce nicer tuxedos and to keep more dominant colors around otherwise I wouldnt have them I have better colors to play with (if you didn't notice i breed for colors
