*YIKES!!!!! $4.699!!!

Anne and I started buying nothing but Toyota Prius' (a hybrid) in 2003. We now have an 07, and we're averaging about 50 mpg. We originally bought the 03 because of its being an SULEV (super ultra low emissions vehicle); the 07 is PZEV (partial zero emissions vehicle), BUT now we're glad that we got it because of money saved on GAS.
I also have a Toyota Tundra V8 4wd pickup, but I only get about 20 mpg on it, so I seldom drive it. It mostly just sits in the garage until I need to bring something large home from Home Depot or get in and out through snow on our 1/3 mile long driveway.

I have a little saturn sl nothing fancy but gets you there paid
under 5,000 for it with 35000 miles on it basicly brand new this was before gas went up
I AM GETTING 40 MILES to a gallon. Ya may want to look into these little cars they are cheap on gas,
and cheaper than a prius.

I am a saturn driver also, I have 4 of them years 92-95 paid no more than 500.00 for any of them and they all average 32-34 mpg. I want to buy a couple more but you can't find them any more for a reasonable price. Everyone is picking up on my little secret...LOL

d.k :

*Big Little Bro just called-- paid that in Humboldt for gas an hour ago.

Whoa, they're trying to tell us we're paying higher in CT than anywhere else in the country but I can still find it for $4.19.
We have friends who own a moving company. One of their drivers filled up last weekend and it was over $1000. I think I will throw up the day I have to pay $5 a gallon.

I have a German friend who balked at American's complaints about gas prices. Apparently they pay like $9 US not euro...overseas...and have been for years. He just could not understand why we were all complaining. I tried to explain to him that Mid Eastern countries pay .40 cents a gallon...he retorted that they mostly drive COWS!! LOL

I'm sure their gas price hikes were steady and salaries over there adjusted to cost of living. The cost of living raise here does not keep up with our inflation and economy.

So sad that car companies are trying to trick us into trading DOWN...to SAVE GAS???

Keep the old car and you'll still save more $$ than buying a new one. I'm just going to plan all my trips to town...walk the kids the 1/2 mile to school...and keep getting groceries at price chopper and using my fuel advantage card. We saved $2.20 a gallon last month on a tank of gas! It was awesome to fill up on $25!!

I think there should be world wide political policies that govern natural resources...water, heating oil, electricity, food. These companies should not be making MUCH profit...period!

3.83 for regular unleaded here as of yesterday.

This has gotten completely out of hand. I would really like to know why. Our government is not taking care of us.

Our government is not taking care of us because their pockets have been lined with profits from the oil companies....

I'm not gonna get into politics here, though. Too many nice folks I like around here and I don't want to debate!!

We really need a new car. Right now we have a VW GTI, which is excellent on gas, but we have a 1-year old son and it is dang hard to get him in and out of the back of that little two-door car!! I also have a little Ford Escort, which is 4-doors and also good on gas, but it has no AC and it is just too hot here to put the little one in that car, so my husband drives that to work. We do have a '93 Chevy Dually, but that is strictly for farm stuff, going to the dump or hauling things! It sits most of the time, we never drive it just to get somewhere. We would like a Prius, but I don't want to get strapped down with much of a car payment (all of our cars are paid for). So we're looking at another VW, maybe a Jetta wagon or something. I'd like to get a diesel Jetta wagon--hubby's looking into making bio-diesel, but the equipment is expensive to start so that might not be a real option. The problem with those TDI VWs, though, is that they hold their value really well and people don't seem to sell them too often. So they're hard to find and expensive. Sigh. Car shopping is HARD!!

Last time I bought gas I didn't even look at the price!! Last time I did it was like $3.89 for the cheap stuff! When I deliver mail I have to fill up each day and usually use 3/4 of a tank daily. I do get reimbursed for that but it's after the fact.

I just try to fill up every time I can so that I can save money the next time. Wish our government would stop this nonsense!
