In all of the excitement over the loss of brakes on the hill yesterday, I forgot to share the GOOD news.
My second set of sebbie eggs are here!!! And my chicken diapers ALSO arrived yesterday! (They weren't supposed to be here until tomorrow.)
The sebbie eggs came in a group of five. The lady did a good job packing them, EXCEPT they all had detached air cells, and one may be scrambled. I couldn't quite tell if it was just a split air cell or a scrambled yolk. A detached air cell is where the membrane comes off of the shell but stays in tact - a split air cell is where the membrane actually breaks and lets liquid into the air cell. It's hard to tell if the darker areas are piece of the membrane doubling up under the light, or if its the yolk. Either way, I haven't got any hope for that one at all. I'll still incubate it, and see what happens.
The chicken diapers came in two sizes - bantam and hen size. They have a larger one for roosters, but Skeeter would be the only one that would need a large diaper, and he seems to be quite capable of taking care of himself. The other roosters are kinda small-ish and could fit into a hen size if needed. Either way, I can safely bring chickens indoors for illness and injury, and not worry about poop getting everywhere!
... Until my sister makes a visit to Debgal's house today.
