YO GEORGIANS! :)

hmlongino, I know someone who would LOVE to sell you some chicks, assuming he still has any left. My mum has his contact info, so if you're interested I'll get it from her asap.

The problem, I imagine, is that he's in Gainesville. Let me know of you're still interested! He has Buff Orpingtons, Rhode Island Reds, and Black Copper Marans.

Holly, Is there any protocol for clean up of the land once MG has entered the ground???? I would suggest contacting the lab and find out and do an online search as wel...I think there's a 7 year wait period. But I may be confusing that.... Also, if you wish, I could set a hatch for speckled sussex, lavendar orps and black copper marans. I don't have silver laced wyondottes. Please pm me here if you are interested. Thanks Nancy

I must have missed it, but prayers to you Nancy. BTW, did you get my message about the leghorns?? I do have a pen that I can use now that I know my one pullet doesn't have Mareks. I didn't want to put any other chickens next to them until I knew. Hope all is well!

I'm definitely interested in the leghorns.

Holly, this might sound like a dumb question--but what is MG?

Also, I am really sorry for your loss....

I hope you can find some birds in your area or get some eggs to hatch.

The Doc at the Ga poultry lab was AWESOME. I mean, AWESOME! I am well aware that we all must have learning experiences along the way-- I don't think many people are gung-ho strong on biosecurity until they have something like this happen. So, I am chalking this up to "live and learn". What else can I do?

MG dies off in less than a week, especially in the GA heat. It is passed chicken to chicken, or through droplets, feed, etc... so, contact or contact with droplets. The doc said that, if we had to get something, at least it was this.

As far as learning experiences go, we are all experts now at culling chickens-- yet another thing you don't learn until you have to! We had processed one in the past, but it wasn't very graceful! We hope to put young extra roos on the dinner table eventually, and now I think I can "swing" it.

I'm done with shipped eggs, unfortunately... so I will have to drive, I'm sure! I really want to get our flock back up and kickin' by spring!
