YO GEORGIANS! :)

So, my Mallard girl had a great stash going until all that rain last week flooded her nest- it's still underwater.

So she made a new one.. Yesterday it had three eggs, and today four. It just cracks me up because as well as she camouflaged it last time, this time she said, "ah forget it!".. This one is literally four feet from our porch steps where dogs, cats, chickens and people are constantly going by. Silly girl..

Apparently she trusts you all, lol!

And guess who is getting Mallard eggs next week? And from right here in Jackson?

Carcar you know you're always welcome at my house! I'm home all evening but celebrating Easter tomorrow with Kevin's family. Just be forewarned, my house is semi clean but you will know you're at the right place by the loud obnoxious boy sounds and sibling disagreements...

That's cool! I would love to sell mine to contribute back to feeding all these feathered kids but it just makes me nervous I guess. I mean, I know my Mals are domestic but don't have any way to prove it?? I just worry about men in black coming to my door and carrying me off somewhere.

Mallards are great hatchers. Toughest little buggers I've hatched anyway. My first hatch I finished three eggs out on a heating pad after the nest was raided. Sprayed them once a day, turned them three times and kept them covered with a dish towel. All three hatched.

i can't seem to get pics to load from my iphone. I finally loaded them all onto my computer. Here is our growout pen for our 16 chickens.

It's an old Dog house that was on the property when we bought it. We cut a hole in the side for an access door and made a pallet run(5 pallets and a homemade gate). There is 1/2" hardware cloth around the sides and chicken wire on top. :) Not bad for a days work. Hopefully we can get the big coop done before they start laying. haha

Nice grow out pen.

I'm not so worried about hatching them, as much as I am caring for them.

You see, the reason they want mallards is because they used to own one. Ages ago, they had a female mallard named "Quackers". She was the only one they got - no other ducks. Quackers lived with chickens, but eventually they got rid of her because she had no friends of her own type.

The problem is, to get rid of Quackers, they released her onto the pond of a nearby church... with other water fowl

I'm pretty sure you all can understand why that made me mad.
