If she hatches them and you take the babies away, it will still take a couple of weeks for her to lay again. But she won't try to sit anymore.

New question: if I do make arrangements for her to safely raise chicks, how many can she handle?

Toooooo, many favorites to choose just 1!! I would've said Crested Cream Legbars last spring, this spring it was Rhodebars, recently I saw a Frizzled Naked Neck and within the last 48 hours I fell in love with Red Jungle Fowl...... OH YEAH let's not forget the luxurious Ayam Cemani!!
I could go on and on and on. I can't choose just one... I WANT THEM ALL!!

I saw that, not far from me either! I would actually love to see one. If there is one around here then at least I would feel like I had a good excuse to put in an electric fence!

So I have a Roo that is supposed to be 3 months old or so, and some hens about 4 months old or so. Today though the kids got all upset and ran in the house to tell me they had to protect "Elsa" from our Roo "Olaf" as he was getting on her and biting her neck.

hmmmm. I told them that it should be ok and I went to watch them for a while. They are right, but Elsa seems to not be interested, she gets away loudly. No one seems to be bothering Elsa so....

I put yard clippings in the nest box and some golf balls. (we live across the street from a golf coarse and sometimes get them in our yard near the street!

We have never had eggs! I wasn't estimating eggs till August! Maybe I am getting excited over nothing?

Boy that little guys got his strut on lol. Wondering IF I could find a young turkey chick would it be big enough to eat by november? Or look for one and just keep it till its big enough like 20 lbs or bigger. What is the growth rate on a turkey as compared to chickens? I look at my 2 upstairs and still think bigger! And when is best age for freezer camp if I decide to go that route on a few. Power outages lately keep me worried about loosing my supply of meat and live is better that frozen loss.
