Got 'Tina Turner' at the Auction

She is such a sweety and is my 'Ambassador Chicken' with the renters. She lets anyone hold her.

Oh yay! I'm glad she's sweet. We're definitely looking at these a more "pets" than layers....but does how does she lay?

She is too young to lay, but we have a white crested blue polish who lays maybe 3 eggs a week. Not the best layer, but enough to add white eggs to my colorful basket of eggs.



And, hurray! My 8 month old Golden Cuckoo Marans finally laid an egg today!

September is almost here, per my calculations I should be expecting an egg any day, give or take depending on bird they are near the 19 week range

Guess I'll be getting some oyster shell this weekend and setup a feeder for that

What type of chickens do you have? I have never had a chicken lay before 27 weeks!!!!! I have all different varieties. Even my Black Australorp is not laying yet and she is almost 27 weeks old!!!! I have several easter eggers that are 23 weeks old and not laying yet. Mine are always late to mature it seems.....although, I have read that it is better for the chicken that way. Oh well, just hope the weather of September will get them started!

Really depends on how red faced they are and if they squat when you go to pick them up. They usually start laying 7-10 days after they start squatting for you.
