YO GEORGIANS! :)

We got hammered hard late yesterday afternoon. Power was out for about 8 hours. Large tree branches down in my yard, a real mess and we didnt need anymore rain. Debby has the St Mary's river flooding homes and roads, and hwy 40 is closed from Kingsland to Folkston.

Is your power back up and running?

Praying that you get some power soon. That's awful having to worry about everything spoiling. Do ya'll have access to generators?

I've been in South Carolina for the past month helping out while my father recuperates and we've had heat indexes of 114+ degrees. I know it's been hot in Ellijay as well. Hubby has been handling my chicks for me in my absence. Luckily our garage is all concrete construction and is built into the side of a hill so it only gets about 78 degrees in the hottest part of the day. We did have to start running the little window unit for the parrots though.

There was some weird wind storm yesterday, no rain or thunder or lightening, just really high winds that broke limbs and downed trees and killed the power until 4 this morning.

I know that with this heat, we're looking at more afternoon storms. Hope everyone fares well!

We had something around 2:30AM. It thundered and rained and lightened some. I slept through it until my answering machine cut off then back on. Then, my first thought was "my chicks! My incubators!" My chicks were fine and sound asleep. Thankfully, my incubators are plugged it a surge protector. It never clicked off.

I missed all the thunderstorm excitement (she said, sarcastically) because I only have internet at the office. We got nailed from Savannah to Macon on July 5th, I was coming back from the beach and could hardly see to drive.

My biggest worry during those storms is that my dang chickens sleep in the tree. I'm always afraid it will get struck by lightening or that they will get blown away!

I'm with y'all on the heat. My game chickens are fine but my lovely speckled sussex just pants and complains. Poor thing. I've given them a paddling pool and cold water and lots of melon and I even tried a block of frozen pumpkin pulp (they were not thrilled with that at all so I won't do it again) to cool them down. They can roam the entire property, and that gives them a nice advantage in this weather.

Yesterday I found them all in the ditch, sitting in mud. Whatever helps, I suppose.

Edited to add: I don't clip their wings, and don't want to clip their wings, so they are pretty good (for chickens) at flying. That's why they sleep in the tree - because they can. I think my poor silkie roo gets jealous. He's the only chicken in the coop at night, and I haven't convinced him it's for his own safety.

Just a shoutout and hello to the Georgians. We've been crazy busy on the farm. As usual - LOL. I'm so sorry for storm damage. We've needed rain certainly but the violence in the storms has been incredible. Seems like a few hours every day we are moving pens etc. After the usual drought looks like I need to be looking for rubber siding for our coops..... It's an unusual season as far as the rain/heat. I'm still not trying to think of all the animals lost during our heat wave. Well, out to pick the berries for the day....Have a blessed day to all...........
