My darling husband told me to go ahead and order the chicks I want for next year. Just placed the order with MPC for 2 Partridge Silkies, 2 Buff Silkies, 2 Blue Silkies and 2 Olive Eggers to be shipped on June 1. Hope they get the order correct this time. Had a few hick-ups last time.

Valleychicks-- I am going to order silkies today from MPC. I posted a question in raising new chicks forum --- wonder if I should just order straight run (though I only want pullets) and save some $ Meyer supplies MPC I think, and Meyer only offers straight run. Your thoughts? I've heard silkies are impossible to vent sex? Why would they offer options?

Chickens are ok here in the south. When you read about heat lamps, those people are usually in the cold north where it constantly stays under 32 degrees. Chickens here do better in the cold than the heat.

Thank you! That's what I'm finding as I read and ask. I'm glad.... I would rather not heat. Just started worrying about my girls ;)
 
@adavid glad you asked that question, I was just about to. I was contemplating buying a lamp but I don't think I will. However, I did order an aquarium 50w submersible water heater for their water system.

I have 3 White Silkie hens and 1 white Silkie Rooster that I got from my daughter's Silkies this May but wanted a Silkie Rooster of another color for the hens so I ordered a Blue one from MPC. Even though MPC sent me a Partridge color Silkie they did get the Rooster part right. They claim to be the only hatchery that can sex Silkies and if they get it wrong they will refund you. I also ordered 2 Cochin hens but only got 1 and 2 EE's but only got 1. I ordered 2 Buff Orpingtons and got 3. The last time that I ordered from MPC I selected to substitute if they didn't have enough of what I wanted and this time I selected no subs and that I would just wait another week until they had exactly what I wanted. I did get an apology and refund for all of the mistakes. Can't wait to see what I actually get this time.
