I hatched some silkies this past summer and was able to sex them within the first week. Girls will have a rounded area at the top of their comb that kind of blends in with the top of their head. Males have a squared off comb that seems to poke out at the top.

After helping our daughter with her Silkie chicks and having my own. I was able to tell the difference between the boys and the girls by the poof on their heads too.

Actually, you can litter train a chicken. Takes a lot of time. Chickens can also learn to do tricks. You tube has lots of info on how to do it.

Yes, I have heard that, too. Don't have as much experience with silkies, but you can also do that type of sexing with Polish chicks. Girls have a rounder bigger poof. Did you see the photos of my Cuckoo Silkies? Got the eggs from California. The female is actually a mix (and was marked as a mix), but I still like her. She looks like a Silkie, but has some white skin and a single comb. (Which you really can't see very well because of all the face fuzz), but the male is pure. I just wanted some for fun.

Here now. Finally chewed through the duct tape GAM had me tied in the closet with. Apparently she doesn't like the ring tone I chose for her when she calls me. Think the Jeff Dunham routine with Walter... Nag nag nag..... You can youtube it..... Filters will edit it here if I type it.
