For those of you who are doing multiple hatches, I assume you guys are using two incubators?  I understand the process, just wanted to know if you bought two of the same kind of incubators or do you go with a cheaper basic one for the lockdown/hatching one?  DH said I might add 'chick hatching' to our menu for our Lodge rentals!!!  How fun would that be.....for ME!  Or do you use something different.  Let me know!!  Thanks.

I had a LG still air (old model) and HATED it for hatch. So I went and bought the newer model and now use the old one to incubate, and the new model to hatch. It's working great! I highly suggest the new model for hatching. The base is deeper and keeps nosy babies from the heating element.

So I unplugged my turner 24* ago, to try and rest the air cells on my Marans eggs a little (several have bobbers in them!! My flashlight rocks!).

Do you guys think it'd be okay to leave it another 24? I think it'd be just fine personally but wanted to humor y'all by asking your opinions. :gig

Also, I MIGHT be going to the swap. My work/chicken friend wants to go too! She may just talk me into it. ;)

Depends on what's in there. I was getting significantly higher hatch rates with this method last year than ever before when using multiple incubators for different egg types and hatching.


Forgot to actually answer the question ... 45-55.

HELP ME RESIST!

Was goofing around on CL and of course, I saw one of Anne's ads. She has Wyandottes now! They're on my "want" list. She also has black sex links (another on my "want" list)

I have 4 laying hens in a 55 square foot coop, the 3 pullets in a 16 square foot coop. In another two weeks, I plan on letting everyone free-range together (supervised until I know they're okay) and then let them decide when they all want to roost together in the large coop.

I don't have a place to set up a 3rd small coop that I can closely supervise. My current coops are right outside the back door so the dogs can hear and notify me if anything bad is going on. I also don't feel comfortable putting 10 girls (I buy chicks at least 3 at a time for company) in a 55 square foot coop. I'd like to wait until I have the larger coop built.

But the chickens are so pretty........
