Interesting fact I've never noticed.. Chicks do not blink their eyes when something comes toward them. This chick wasn't blinking but then I tested my healthy chicks. Never knew that!
 
Wonder y maran eggs do that? Curoiusty has hit. Good luck with that. I learned last year don't buy eggs on ebay for me. I had one explode in my face it was wrotten n none hatched. They where marans too.

I just love roosters and he is gorgeous! Neighbors dogs are the worst! I know how you feel. You could never replace him by getting another one. He will always be the unique in your heart so that is not replacing. It may help ease the pain of losing him if you did get another Phoenix though. We lost our Red Star named Rox Star last year. She was really something. She would help me dig for worms and talk to me the whole time I was cleaning the coop. She had something wrong with her that caused her to be an internal layer which resulted in her getting an infection. I will be getting more like her in the future but they will never replace her.

I tried some eBay eggs ... I too will not be doing that again. They were shipped in a bubble envelope. That's right ... Soft sided packaging. And the egg carton BARELY fit in it. She was surprised that eggs broke. Der. Out of the eggs from that shipment and her replacement shipment combined I have 3 chicke. That's out of 25 total shipped. Nothing else survived shipping or never started.
 
Renters just left. One girl wanted to buy A baby chick for her daughter. (She has 4 older hens and thought to take a small one for her daughter to play with) I told her I won't sell just one baby. They need to have a friend. So she bought two. So I tell her they are $3 each because they are mixes. So she hands me the money and I ask her which ones she wants. OMG! She picked the two purebred Swedish Flowers! Ugh! Nice me went ahead and sold them to her! I would have asked for more for those because they are rare and purebred, but I had already told her $3. Ugh. I learned my lesson! Next time I will say, $3 for the mixes and $6 for the SF! Then, my DH says, "Why don't you GIVE them some of those duck eggs to try?" I was going to sell those at the event! But, no, nice me says sure But, DH did let me start doing mini hatches for the renters to get to enjoy, so will have lots of chicks!
