YO GEORGIANS! :)

We have 3 coops, 37 adult chickens. I have 19 day old chicks in the brooder, 4 eggs in the incubator still cooking and I'm supposed to get 12+ eggs from CA in a couple of weeks (New Hampshire reds and RSLs). and I'm thinking about bidding on some more eggs. What is wrong with me?!
Absolutely nothing.

TSC McDonough Swap…I did not find my Pure Cochin's. but I did pack up a mix and 3 other assorted babies :)

So i did some light reading and seeing as how the 5 frizzled cochin chicks were almost identical it's safe to assume they came from the same bloodline. Well mine has muff's which means somewhere along the lines there is Silkie, Cochin, and EE blood in these chicks. Can't wait to see the eggs now.

Went to the auction/sale in Pearson Ga.this morning. They had a lot there. Ended up getting 3 Rhode island reds about 3 months old. the rest of my mixed flock seem to accept them real well except for the Leghorn. She is snappy with everyone.

So 6 of the turkey eggs from jdduck have hatched. None of the poults I bought from him lived as the heat bulb burned out in the middle of the night during one of the cold snaps. Lost chicks that night, too. They were in the garage but it wasn't warm enough.

One of the newly hatched poults has a really bad case of splay legs. How high up do we need to tape them?

I usually put it just below where the leg joins their body on chicks.

I've use Hobbs with success on pups and chicks. Don't interfere with any joints I placed mine not against the body but high as it seemed more a weakness in the hips. Watch the animal as you may need to place a 2nd lower as well. I gave personal rehab time when this was done helping them stand to strengthen the areas in question. Use transpore tape if possible, it breaths and is not as hard to change/remove. Time in Hobbs depends on the animal. You can refer to "Hatching & Brooding your own chicks" by Gail Damerow page 195 for a full write up and how to photos.

well it was nice to meet u even though I dont remember who all I sold to, the polish that bob had came from my flock I believe they where some of the same hatch that I had with me.
I agree it was nice to meet up with folks even if a little bit of a blurr in the misting rain. I hope this event happens again and that the weather is better for a larger turn out. Still keeping a weathered eye out for pure Cochins :)
