YO GEORGIANS! :)

So 6 of the turkey eggs from jdduck have hatched. None of the poults I bought from him lived as the heat bulb burned out in the middle of the night during one of the cold snaps. Lost chicks that night, too. They were in the garage but it wasn't warm enough.

One of the newly hatched poults has a really bad case of splay legs. How high up do we need to tape them?

Let me know when yall are down this way and I will get u some more babies or eggs. I use a bandaid just above the knee. And check often as they grow so fast

We have 3 coops, 37 adult chickens. I have 19 day old chicks in the brooder, 4 eggs in the incubator still cooking and I'm supposed to get 12+ eggs from CA in a couple of weeks (New Hampshire reds and RSLs). and I'm thinking about bidding on some more eggs. What is wrong with me?!

Just getting around to answer your question. I had two eggs that weren't doing anything after all the others hatched. I candled them and they looked dead, so I made a small hole in the top of the eggs and looked in. They were dead. One was the duck that I had put into the small mini bator....seemed to be way too much humidity. The other was in the regular bator and seems to have died about 5 days before hatch.., Still had huge yolk attached. So, that was the end of that hatch. Of the 10 eggs, I got 7 chicks and 1 duck. (80% hatch rate) Not as good as the 94% I had with the last hatch using my bigger incubator. The small mini was not good....only 50% out of 6 eggs, I don't think I will be using that small bator again.

You may want to go ahead and candle those eggs to see if there is any movement.

I agree it was nice to meet up with folks even if a little bit of a blurr in the misting rain. I hope this event happens again and that the weather is better for a larger turn out. Still keeping a weathered eye out for pure Cochins :)
I will let u know when mine start back laying then I can get u chicks or eggs. mine are bantums though.

I tried candling them but they are all dark so I know that something is in there. One is your GCM egg and the other three are some of my Red Star eggs all of them are the same brown. Before development I could see through them but not now. I used my OvaScope on them and a great flash light that I have that will show through a fresh Maran egg. Should I go ahead and poke a small hole in the center of the air space in the eggs?

I have a guy coming today to buy a few of my hens. I am selling some of my brown egg layers....just too many brown eggs for my egg selling.

Robo, did you ever post pics of my ducks? LOL.....I meant, ducks from my duck eggs?

That's up to you. You may want to do one...just to see if it is alive. If you see a breathing body, just put it back in. If not, then remove it.

How about this weather!!! I fell really bad for our renters. They had rain all weekend until today.....and they had to go home! My chickens are having a ball in the sunshine!

Ok. Thank you! I will poke a hole through one and see if I can tell what's going on. Our chickens are having a good time in the sun too!
