YO GEORGIANS! :)

I had an Easter Egger that laid 2 eggs in one day. Someone told me that one would be a fart egg, but both were perfectly formed. She took a deserved day off afterwards though!

Goldie the broody BO got up for 15 seconds this morning so I got to do a chick count. 17 eggs originally went under her but she crushed the only bantam egg in the first few days. 8 healthy chicks, 2 crushed chicks in the shells, one smothered half zipped chick in shell and 5 eggs. I removed the dead ones before she jumped back in clucking at me! Guess she thought three times reaching in the nest was enough

I don't know if she just put all her weight on the hatching chicks when adjusting for the other chicks or what but why crush them when they were hatching?!?

The oldest chick is 3 days old today so since she settled back on the remaining eggs/ chicks I'm thinking remove the eggs this evening if she hasn't taken the chicks to food and water today. What do yall think? (Her 1st brood was only 2 eggs and she did the right thing with the only hatched chick, leaving the dud. My concern is with there being so many more eggs in the nest still that she may not get the chicks going.)

Friday evening, I had an unpleasant encounter with one of my neighbors. In the past, I've had issues with their dog coming onto my property. Twice, I've visited with them and they've assured me that they'd keep her on a leash. I was home Friday afternoon, all my windows open when I heard all the hens go crazy. I ran outside there were feathers everywhere. It looked like the molt happened in the yard. I grabbed a Zebra Super Shot that I use to keep squirrels off the Topsy Turvy tomato plants and bird feeders. I got a couple hits on him. It fires yellow pellet/balls, they bounce off, don't penetrate. The dog runs away home.

Gathered the flock and got them back into the coop and run, locked it up. No hens missing, but a ton of feathers ruffled. I was about to go back in the house when the county animal control officer pulls up in front of my house and two county sheriff's patrol officers park behind him.

Apparently, she's called Animal Control on me saying that my chickens are roaming unrestrained. They were, I free range them when I can but they don't ever leave the property. They get my statement, look at the toy gun, it's orange, clearly a toy. Now, the dog owner is there. She's talking to the one deputy while the other is talking to me. Then we all gather together where the one officer explains that my chickens are not violating any laws but her dog is. Apparently my county has a leash law for dogs but not chickens. The animal control officer said something that I think is worth repeating... He said, "In your yard that is a family pet, in his yard that is a predator."

This evening her husband came by, apologized and told me he is installing a chain link fence up close to the house.
Awesome

I came back at the right time XDD

I got the rest of my chicks today :D
Ashly got so upset and just wanted held but she ok now after a bit. My tiny bantam I got is so small and just likes to stay under the heat. I'm a little wiorded but she eats and drinks so yay :3
