YO GEORGIANS! :)

very much possible, make a ramp for em, if they want up there bad enough, they'll get up there. at least they'd have a way down

No, they go up the right way.. From the inside. It's when try choose to come down that way.. The brahmas are just too big and non-feathered compared to the rest.

Exactly my point, they can get up there, they need a better way DOWN which a ramp would provide. I had to go out 3 or 4 mornings in a row and literally put a few of mine on the ramp, but they get it now

Well, I'm somewhat disappointed. I put these golf balls out about 2 weeks ago, and the girls still haven't learned to play. Maybe I need to take out the driver and put in a 5 iron or putter?

I'm on my way! lol!

On another topic, I saw an indigo bunting today. Only the second time I've seen one in my life. They pass through here annually, but don't call GA their home.

So cool!

Tell me what that is! Is it a bird? I took a photo of a bird I'd never seen before while building the coop. There were 2 of them hanging around in the brush outside the chicken yard.

What does everyone use for roofing material in the southern part of the state? I have some tin, but I am afraid that might make the coop too hot during the summer.

I have galvanized(edited) tin on mine but that's only because it was free. Luckily, we did insulate the rest of it. It's pretty warm in there unless we have a ventilation fan going. And by fan, I mean we have one set in a window to circulate. it's a desktop fan that just happened to fit perfectly inside the windowsill. It's still cooler in there than outside, though.

Did you guys get a letter from the GA dept of Agriculture about the Avian Influenza? They said "until further notice, move all poultry with outside access into housing immediately."

Take a look at the envelope my letter came in! LOL! They got my name right!
I just got a letter too but it's a little different. It talks about getting eggs, chickens or chicks across state line need to have paper work with them showing they come from a tested disease clean place. Also they included a premise id form. I already have all that and was just NPIP tested clean on the 2nd of June. This is crazy. It is scaring me to death!

No dear, you're not hearing me lol. If they would go DOWN the way they come UP it's totally safe. They're just swimming in the shallow end of the gene pool.

:lau :lau

Seriously though, I could wire the area off.. Just gotta get some first.

ok gotcha, I actually saw some at walmart today. You could even just put up some plastic fencing, all it needs to be is a visual barrier, and plastic netting could be put up with a stapler

if you get galvanized or painted a light color it will actually be cooler because it will reflect it back away. I put galvalume on mine, the last three I've built were done with either galvanized or lets see, was it tan or gray? either/or it reflected the heat away
