YO GEORGIANS! :)

Hardware cloth for the coop where they are closed in at night. Other wire for daytime use for me. But, we don't have local 'bad' dogs. Most our predators are night time critters. They can't get into the closed up coop.

The run is huge and goes up the mountain into the woods. (On the left side of the coop) They have lots of cover from hawks there. Have not lost anything in this location yet. (Except two years ago when the bear tore off the door one night. But we reinforced it now) The run fence is regular small retangular gauged fencing. The coop is hardware cloth that is buried down into the ground 12 inches and goes out 12 inches (like an L) That keeps anything from digging under.

So beautiful!

Hi everyone! Am I nuts, or does anyone else think this Marans looks a little rooster-y? I've confirmed that one of the EEs is a roo, but this one has me stumped. The tail is what has me second guessing. edited to add: will 8 weeks old this Friday [/quoteI agree that it does look a bit roo but at 8 weeks its still a tad early to tell but gosh its a beauty and sooo shinely.

Definitely one of my favorites right now. The EE roo is same age, but he was really starting to be obvious early on, that's him in the background of the middle photo. All 3 of these that are getting ready for the coop are really pretty. 2 are 8 weeks the other is maybe 9-10 weeks. I don't mid roosters at all, I just can't have 3 roos an4 girls in a 8x4 coop together. As far as I've been told.

I really figured it would be one of the leghorns, since they've been submitting. I'm going to leave it a while and see if any of the others lay one beside it

In my PERSONAL Marans experience, I'm gonna say pullet. All the boys I've had have been super red by eight weeks and had wattles coming in. The girls, though always manly-looking, just aren't as quick. But, only having one Marans (I assume?), it's hard when you don't have others of the same breed/lineage to compare..

This is pictures of my EE and as said I found one crowing today, and being amateur as I am trying to determine if they are roosters or hens, if roosters then will need to make some changes. Any help or information is appreciated they are going on 16 weeks, and the tail feathers look similar to my roo. So anybody, rooster or hen ?

They are both roos. They both have saddle and hackle feathers. Sorry.
