oh that is awful,Lost my Black Australorp hen today. Came home from town to find her dead and an egg stuck in her butt! Egg bound. You never know when and what will happen to your chickens! I had just told one of the renters this morning that they can die without any warnings.

Is it because of the time of the year or just my luck, I can't seem to find RIR hatching eggs anywhere,,, I had a guy that was selling them 3$ a dozen but by the time I had decided to hatch them, he was sold out with no plans of restocking till next year.
A friend of mine gave me a RIR roo and I was just going to mate him with my 2 RIR hens and make my own hatching eggs. Only problem with that is the roo isn't full grown yet.
Any tips or ideas? I would like to have them soon, so that I can watch the hatching process myself while off for Christmas break. Instead of having to rely on my wife while I am at work.
