YO GEORGIANS! :)

@PapaChaz so I may have missed it, what was your hatch count?
4 that's right, just 4.

I attribute it to my fan in the hatcher quitting and me not knowing I needed to bump the temp up to help out.

started with 14 eggs, at day ten one was clear, one was a quitter. at day 18, one more appeared to have quit, but the rest seemed to be good when I put them in the hatcher. Kept the temp 100* and the humidity between 60 -65%. I had tested my hygrometers, so I'd know what I was reading and what to add/subtract. First chick hatched monday, did fine. The other three we discussed through the thread.

today I picked up a computer case fan from the local computer shop for $2, and I have an old wall charger that puts out 12v to wire it to. Tested and it works, I'm trying to decide now what the best mounting position will be. I'll solder and heat shrink the connections, and when I get it in, I'll take pics

I'm sorry, I really hate that cause that is the bator I gave you. I'm going to join in on the great hatchathon, my girls are giving me 12 eggs a day now.

I think it was more on the still air I bought to hatch in. I had 11 viable eggs going in at lockdown. but not having a working fan for the whole hatch and not bumping the temps to make up for it is what caused it.

I'm hard wiring a fan into it and it should work better next week on my next hatch.

and I set 21 more eggs for hatching the thursday before easter

Used the money I made at the swap yesterday to buy 6 Lavender Ameraucanas. 5 hens and a rooster. The hens are about 8 months, the rooster is 20 months. WOOHOO!!!
Then I went a bit further up the road and picked up four silkies and a frizzle.
Oh, at the first place I also got talked into 3 Light Sussex, a month old.
And tomorrow, I pick up 7 Crested Cream Legbars.
I think I have a problem.....

Naw you don't have a problem you just have chicken love, but I may lol. Yesterday i got a text that chicks and ducks I wanted came in. I left work in Johns Creek at 4:10 last night and got there at 6:30pm picked up my little wet shivering bundles (it was dark pouring cold rain like no bodies business), put them in the floor with hot hands and heater cranked and made my way home by 7:30pm. Now did I mention that had just been out two days with the stomach bug from HE double hockey sticks and was still a bit off. That's chicken love or chicken fever or maybe regular fever affecting my judgement lol. A big thanks and shout out to Cliff for his assistance.

ok, it's time again for the feather sexing photos. Please remember that this works mainly for chicks coming out of a hatchery because they breed their parent stock so that the males are slow feathering and the females are fast feathering. That way they can feather sex their chicks. Not all of their breeds can be feather sexed, but most are. And, it is best for just the first 4 days. Once you start breeding your own chicks, you lose the ability to do this somewhat. So, those going to TS or feedstore where they get their chicks from a hatchery. LOOK AT THEIR WINGS. You can choose which sex you want!

Girl feathers

Boy feathers

FYI

Usual Girl feathers. Nice semi-circle

Usual boy feathers - Longer primary feathers than the secondary

SLW: Boys (left) will have a black ring around it's neck. Girls (right) have the lacing all over neck.

Can't wait to see what colors you come up with. I tried to get one of each. There was one i REALLY wanted you to get but it was a little boy. I'll have to do some research and figure out what color he would have been.

I have my first set of shipped chicks in the mail on the way. Marans and Cochins from Texas. I should be able to get a couple Isbars and Bielefelders (hopefully) local to brood together!
I picked up save a chick and starter today. I've always picked up local, any advise for shipped chicks?

Did I hear someone say a few days ago that one of the TSC's had ISA brown chicks. I got in an order of 25 from townline today and there were 5 dead...and two more "at least" probably won't make it. I sure wanted the 25. They were a day late and were not in good shape at all...might lose more than just the two which don't look so good right now.. I have called the TSC in both calhoun and rome and they don't have any. Would like to find them close to same age.
