I don't remember if I posted my candling results from last night. All of the eggs looked to be fertile, no clears at all! we were concerned that the dozen eggs from my son in law might not be fertile, but they all were. Two blood rings though so those got tossed. The green eggs are exceptionally difficult to see through, I could see the air cells and that was it, so I'm going to say they are fertile as well. First batch I've set that at least two of the AM eggs weren't fertile, so out of 28 eggs, so far 26 of them look to be fertile and coming along nicely.

I'm keeping the WCB set at 100, it goes to there, turns off the heater, but the temp sensor will show it go on to 101, then it starts cooling off and when it gets back to 99, it kicks it back on again. I may have to add another fan, because there is at least a one degree difference from top to bottom for each shelf. I've moved the sensor probe to different levels, and this seems to be the best consistancy with it looped and wrapped from the middle of the first hatching tray shelf. I am thinking another fan might help move the warm air around just a bit better. The humidity is staying right around the 30% mark for now, I know I can bump it into the 57-60% range with the other water pan on the top shelf, so I'll do that on lock down day and slowly uncover the pan to expose more water surface over the course of day 18 and 19....

I am not just hoping for, but expecting a much better hatch rate this go round. I just set 14 more AM eggs wednesday, so for the first time I actually had the 42 egg turner full for a couple days.

A/C here in Bartow told me they would pick them up, if I caught them.
Or to shoot to kill if they were after my livestock.
But if I wounded and didn't kill, I could be charged with animal cruelty and liable for vet bills.

I'm still hanging on to a donkey that showed up Monday. Today makes 5 business days, so guess if he's here at dark, he's mine.

what if the owners are on vacation and don't get back til tomorrow.........

A/C here told me to shoot to kill, not to shoot with a bb or pellet gun because that would get me the animal cruelty charges. They didn't say anything about just wounding it and it making it back home though. Interesting, so just make sure if you have to shoot, you have the kill shot and use a big enough gun to get it done quickly, which is the only way to do it humanely anyway

i do understand, but at least if you call them, you have a report on record. They're supposed to deal with the owners who just let their dogs roam. I'm not advocating shooting someone's pet, BUT once that pet breaks through and into the pen after your chickens, that dog who's just doing what dogs do, is killing chickens he can catch, just to kill them. They don't kill for food, at least someone's pet won't, they kill just to kill.

I don't know which person is the worst. The one who chains a dog up in the backyard but feeds it every day, or the person who totally disrespects the neighborhood by letting their dog run loose and destroy every one else's property

I totally agree. And ok, true they can talk to them. I forget that part. When I go out today I'll drive a bit and see if I see them anywhere in the neighborhoods around. Maybe can get an idea of the area at least.

It the typical bureaucracy, they want a pay check with out exerting themselves and the report will always get lost if you do something and then state you reported it. Need to see if you can figure the owners and then take action on them. Get plenty of pictures for proof

And as much as I get angry, I'd sooner shoot the owners than the dogs. They're just being dogs, poor kids. Watching them jaunt around the waters edge without a care in the world.. Having a good old time, lol. Makes me almost feel bad for them.

Maybe, but there's always other dogs. They're everywhere in this town. I originally thought this was the same white dog from last time, but after taking that pic I see this one has brown on it.

Ok everyone. I am ISO of 3 new birds. Pullets, please. Ideal age would be 8-16weeks.

A Buff Orpington is an absolute must. So, the other 2 I would prefer a Crested Cream Legbar or an Isbar and a Minorca.
I know those are not as easy to find round these parts, so if I have to I could go with another option for a colored egg layer and a white egg layer. my objective: to have a mixed flock. Uncommon breeds appeal to me most but I don't discriminate.

Does anyone here have any of these for sale or know who might? I know there is a breeder in Griffin who has one of those breeds but sells only unsexed chicks as far as I can tell.
If any of you do have these for sale:

what age are they?
what is your price point?
will they be available at the swap on the 30th?
if not, I'm willing to drive, how close/far are you from Coweta Co?

Need some advice, one of the chickens I rescued has been in isolation for a month, then did the typical see but do not touch introduction and then yesterday I put them all together. Seems she to want nothing to do with the other chickens, she would not go into the coop with the others last night, waited till dark and put her in. Had to be on the roosting bar as far from the other as possible. Today they do a little picking on her, but basically she just stays as far away as possibly from all the others, she even has been going into the nesting boxes to stay away. Not sure if or how to get her to accept and mingle with the others. She will eat and drink when I let them all out to free range, but not sure about when confined.
Might note their was another chicken with her for a month, that I had to rehome. It had a sore on her vent that after 75.00 in vet Just could not find a cure to heal her sore. fees and trying everything else and close to $200.00 in cost figured best to rehome her, she was eating, drinking and very active and the two got along good.

similar behavior occurred when I had to reintegrate Sophia after the hawk attack. I had to keep her isolated until I was able to get what I needed to secure the yard enough to prevent further attacks. OS it was close to 3 weeks before I decided on the right options. It took about a week for her to come around once she was past the look but don't touch stage, but eventually she did. I just made sure she had another separate feeder to get to when she needed since the others wouldn't let her near the food and water at first.
