I hope your FBCM turn out better than mine did. I bought a dozen from a breeder in west GA. The eggs were beautiful. Several were not fertile. Of those that hatched and matured, their eggs looked all splotchy. I was ready to get rid of them all. But I decided to hatch a 2nd generation. Now the pullets are laying beautiful dark eggs. Small, but beautiful. Except for the one that lays blue eggs. I'm still confused about that.Today's hatch has went pretty good. For shipped eggs you could even say great for one breed. Had 12 French BCM and 12 Wellsummers. Had 10 hatch from the FBCM and 5 out of the Wellsummers.
Got them on Ebay. They stated Show quality French BCM. Eggs were really dark.
4 eggs were darkest and this pic doesn't show true color.
The Wellsummers look huge!
Or at least that rooster does.
Some of those eggs are dark as well. All have lots of spots. I was glad 5 of them hatched because after I candled them it wasn't looking promising for most. I think if it hadn't been for the new Cabinet incubator I would not have had such good luck.
by the time April 30th hits, she'd qualify! So, yes! DH and I have discussed and laid out the plan to bring home 3 newbies by April 30th. I didn't realize that it's only 3 weeks(ish) away! LOL
I lose track of space and time it seems. Lately.![]()
so now, I need to secure 2 more. A BO and a blue egg layer! Thanks, Flower!
AC can't/won't do a thing. I can't count the times I've called them over the years. They're useless in my book for things such as this- I mean, what're they gonna do.. Come call the dogs to them? Know what I mean? Enlighten me if I'm wrong.
Ok everyone. I am ISO of 3 new birds. Pullets, please. Ideal age would be 8-16weeks.
A Buff Orpington is an absolute must. So, the other 2 I would prefer a Crested Cream Legbar or an Isbar and a Minorca.
I know those are not as easy to find round these parts, so if I have to I could go with another option for a colored egg layer and a white egg layer. my objective: to have a mixed flock. Uncommon breeds appeal to me most but I don't discriminate.![]()
Does anyone here have any of these for sale or know who might? I know there is a breeder in Griffin who has one of those breeds but sells only unsexed chicks as far as I can tell.
If any of you do have these for sale:
what age are they?
what is your price point?
will they be available at the swap on the 30th?
if not, I'm willing to drive, how close/far are you from Coweta Co?
Pretty sure we're county.I have a friend that works for AC. Regulations have really kept them from doing hardly anything. My cousin in Collard Valley had some dogs get into her barn and killed about 10 goats and then into her coop and took out 100 chickens. Just killed them all and left. AC cant do anything unless the dogs are there etc. In the end, its your chickens or those dogs. They know they are there and will keep coming back. I say try an electric fence. I have used the plug in kind and the solar kind. I had a few Golden Retrievers try to get my chickens at my old house. My Great Dane got one (She didn't like other dogs in her yard) and the other hit the fence twice and then laid down in the driveway. I thought it was dead but it got up a few mins later and ran home.
When she would go in heat, dogs would come from all over just to be thrown around the yard and screamed to get away from her.![]()
Is where you live considered city or county?
Awesome! Good to know! It seems I'm drawn to rhe not so common birds. With the exception of the Orpingtons, of course. LolI am working on becoming a breeder of the Isbar. I have a 1st import hen and recently got the most recent imports from GFF. I am working on getting more of the 1st import so I can have both and plan to keep them separate. I like the 1st imports best. My 1st import hen is my main pic at the moment. If you don't find one this time I will surely have some in the future so if you are looking for one later just remember me. The ones the people in Griffin sell are the most recent imports and yeah they only sell unsexed chicks or hatching eggs. Been trying to find a 1st import rooster but that has been impossible. Closest one I have found is Nashville.
Indeed they are! Part of the reason I chose the legbar was the auto-sexing. I could've sworn that the Isbars were also(?). Can't remember now. Back when I was researching what breeds were so that I can add more birds without any roos popping up, I had it locked down. But then I went to the show in Newnan and fell in love with the LaFleche & Minorcas, too!I just hatched a BO earlier this week so it doesn't meet your guidelines but it's free. Also aren't Cream Legbars auto sexing?
Well that's why you remove the E and call him Axl. (Insert metalhead emoji here)See ... the negative Axels just keep adding up. TWD and Foley.
