YO GEORGIANS! :)

Four.

FOUR.

(4).

That's how many of my bantam Cochin eggs are fertile from my latest (one dozen) shipment. I messaged the seller but of course don't expect any sort of response, at least not a remorseful one. I just don't understand- I have stopped selling eggs completely due to a change in my flock dynamics because I'm horrified of charging people for eggs I don't know have a fantastic chance of best fertility.

But perhaps I shouldn't be so negative until I hear back from the seller.

Oh! And also I had my first "bad egg" in the bator this morning. Went to get my two new chicks out and smelled a faint off smell. So I candled the four dozen MFD eggs and found the stinker. SO glad I have a sensitive smeller!!

All my years of breeding bantam cochins I never had a low fertility rate. I bought the 13 eggs last Summer and only 3 hatched, I think either the eggs were old, have too many hens and not enough roosters, or they don't ship well. When I told the seller about the hatch rate she said I should try again in the Fall or Spring because when it is hot the fertility rate goes down. AND SHE IS STILL SELLING THE EGGS KNOWING THAT!

Every time I have incubated one of my Frizzle's eggs it has been fertile. She is sitting on the last one I will probably hatch.

Hello Georgia Peeps!

Wondering what the risk is of blackhead disease in GA for raising turkey? Anybody have an idea? I have chickens but were obsessed with raising turkey for "dinner", anybody know if its safe?

Thanks!

I have raised turkeys with chickens and they do fine, but then my birds get to free range all day, so I have not encountered that problem. It seems that if the birds are housed together and have to peck in their poop then you run a high risk of black head as chickens can or do carry the worm that causes black head in turkeys. This is my understanding certainly not an expert.

BEE UPDATE:

They decided to move into a hollow in one of my trees, so it is iffy if they will come out to get them, so we maybe bee owners!!! My DH says I can pretend I'm Pooh Bear and climb the honey tree, what ever.
