YO GEORGIANS! :)

Update on Betty, our Black Star...she's eating but more natural food than the fermented feed I've been feeding them. Found out today she really wants yogurt and dandelions...whatever works! She's even grown on my husband. He was quite upset when I told him she'd been attacked. Got a picture of her without the damage...head on, she looks fine.

I think the lone baby nugget thag hatched on the 22 is a boy! LOL
I'm a rooster magnet.
And I was wrong-Stanley seems tobe the father. Hehe. Anyone need a free 4wk old?

Been away far too long, got incredibly busy. I never got to test the natural fire ant killer recipe I found to pour into the bed. The tropical storm came through here and our yard is very slanted and apart from the ant hills is very hard packed dirt. So any hole immediately fills with water and holds like a pool. The rain must have washed them right out of their nest and then out of the backyard and into the ditch in the front. They have been gone since the rain stopped. Yay.

Now... since I have a fenced in area of about 1/3 of an acre and have counted my chickens... it's time to downsize. I have 52 chickens, 7 ducks, and 5 muscovies fenced in 1/3 of an acre. Way too many. Lots are babies and bantams, but still. I've realized treating them all one by one for anything is a HUGE job. Thank you feather lice for making me notice that I am a chicken hoarder. Because no one wants to catch and treat 64 free range birds 3 weeks in a row to treat them individually for anything.

Well Nankins are all hatched, one lost due to a snake, one killed by another chicken and two killed by mother hen. But still have five from a week old to three weeks old. Will have to be looking for a home for some or all. Starting to strongly consider getting out of the chicken business, the other half wants a vacation as well as I would but other then a weekend really cannot get to take a week or so off. With no responsible person available to tend to them. But taking care of chicks for now and then getting them rehome first.
remind us where you're located? maybe some of us are close enough to help out while you take a vacation :)

catch them? wait til they roost and just pick em up, LOL

that's still a lot to handle though, you are right about that

With the moon being nearly full last night... they could see to run off and run off they did. Lol. It was much easier to treat them the first time when it was darker at night and they didn't run away.

Farmers Market today was really really slow. Almost no vendors. The ones there said it has been so hot and dry their produce has suffered and they don't have enough to sell. I managed to sell 6 dozen eggs in less than 2 hours. Then, DH wanted to go get pizza and beer so we didn't stay the whole time. That's ok.

Have a guy coming to get a few chicks to put in with his newly hatched turkeys to show them how to eat and drink. Turkeys are not very bright.

Still have about 20 chicks to sell. Have put the incubator up for a while. Still have 5 baby ducks for sale. About a month old! Had some calls, but no takers! Ugh! DH says I'm never allowed to hatch ducks again because nobody wants them!

What do you guys do with your older hens? Mine are pets and I hate to do it, but I need to sell some of them! Too many! Too much food! No eggs! There are probably 50 chickens in the big coop and I'm only getting 10-18 eggs a day! Of course, about a 1/3 of them are still too young, but about 30 others are either too old or taking a break! That's ridiculous!
