YO GEORGIANS! :)

Bummer!  Feathersaloft came by to pick up some LA chicks and I was showing her my Polish and she mentioned one was a boy.  Now, I know the difference between boy and girl Polish, but for some reason, I was just thinking her hair hadn't grown out yet!  Yes, boy!  Ugh.  Is anyone interested in a Gold Laced Polish roo?  Only about 2 1/2 months old.

That sucks! Are polish just hard to sex as chicks or what?

8 hatched from my dropped eggs.
Checked them today and 3 were shrunk wrapped but trying. Membranes were solid and actually crunchy.
I helped the 3, and there are 6 that weren't too damaged that I'm giving til tomorrow.
But one of the 3 is a SHOWGIRL!!!
And it is the strongest of the 3.

Edit: all 3 helped chicks look great too.

woooo hooo! Great save! Where did the showgirl come from?

I got him from the feed store who only orders females.  So this is one they got wrong.

Bummer. Ive never had a problem with any other breed (of course this is my first year ordering too though, so take that with a grain of salt, I suppose. :) )

FYI the chicks from the eggs i got from you are getting big! The frizzle (Sunny's chick) ended up being a pullet. Shes turning orange like mom and seems to have very light barring on her feathers!

Can't for the life of me get a clear picture of her though!

The fluffy faced chick ended up being a boy and MAN is he handsome! We're going to try to keep him. :) Hopefully he will inherit dad's calm personality.

Woohoo! Congrats on the showgirl, glad to hear the babies are doing well!

Since we started with chickens we've had barred, red/brown, black, white, frizzle, silkie, crested and everything else under the sun. This year "we" decided to quit having bantams and switch entirely to LF birds that would lay multiple colors of eggs and be less easy prey for the hawks. Recently i looked out in the yard and some how we've gone from all of those varieties to having black, brown and grey. So much for all the fun looking birds. Meet our newest addition, a black Ayam Cemani, with another pip right behind it. These are some late bloomers. The first hatched on Day 24 with another pipping on day 24. Still have two more Ayam's and 1 Biele with movement but no pips yet.

Well Nankins are all hatched, one lost due to a snake, one killed by another chicken and two killed by mother hen. But still have five from a week old to three weeks old. Will have to be looking for a home for some or all. Starting to strongly consider getting out of the chicken business, the other half wants a vacation as well as I would but other then a weekend really cannot get to take a week or so off. With no responsible person available to tend to them. But taking care of chicks for now and then getting them rehome first.

I had bought a silkie & a showgirl from Cliff. Looks like daddy is my partridge silkie, not so affectionately called Bad *****.

I need to double check neck color to be sure it's black. That hit me today. I saw black feet, 5 toes & a poof.

At the doctors with hubby now as they decide what to do with his leg which just isn't healing right.

Wow, she does look like Mom. I'm not seeing hackle or saddle feathers on the one you call a boy. No wattles either, but it wouldn't have wattles if it is an EE/Brahma mix. Are you sure its a boy?

Not totally sure, but that red in the shoulders is getting more vibrant and glossy each day, and the yellow on the hips came in after he was feathered out. But on the other hand his hackle feathers are all rounded. His colors Used to be brownish and blue. Might be just wishful thinking, but I think he'd make some really pretty babies either way.

People's opinions on the rooster threads are split right down the middle. Half the people are 100% certain he's a HE, the other half are 100% sure he's a SHE. I might be genetic testing him if the kits ever come.
