YO GEORGIANS! :)

That's my question. I can only ever find up to the 18% feed, and the peck no more lotion doesn't do anything anymore for my crew.
Not sure where you are located but I get 'super lay 22' it's 22% protein from calhoun farm supply in calhoun. My grandson get's it at dyke's creek farm supply in rome. It's $12/50 lb bag. Here is their link http://www.tuckermilling.com/ they are located in guntersville AL...their website shows where you can buy their feed.

Lee's Crossing Feed in LaGrange has ADM layer feed that is 22% and some from a "local" feed mill up in North AL that is also 22%. They've both got like 4.5% calcium in there too so you don't really have to feed oyster shell unless you've just got some problem layers that need more calcium. If I remember right, they were both $13.99 for the 50# bag.

Oh yeah, I think that's what we get Gypsy. They're in Guntersville if I remember right. I think the Tucker Milling is the "store brand" we get. That's what I was feeding for grower and they loved it. I just changed over to layer and I bought the ADM because the guy said it was a smaller pellet and my chicks are just now 15 weeks old. Once I go through this bag of ADM, I'll switch back to the Tucker because I prefer that over a conglomerate like ADM. :)

yeah the tucker milling feed is what I was getting too. Although, when I was feeding either protein percentage, I got some funky shells from some of my hens. Some with swollen looking places, a few that look like the spare tire I have hanging over my belt, HA, some that were cracked or really weak

as soon as I changed back to buying feed at TSC, the funky shell issue went away. Deductive reasoning would say it had to be the feed, because it was different hens in different pens, not always just the same hen

I'm certainly no expert but based on what I have read, too much protein is as bad as too little. The reason I am feeding the tucker milling super lay 22 is because I have ISA browns and it is recommended to provide them with the extra protein because they are such prolific layers. They will lay themselves to death without extra protein support and especially during molt when they require so much protein. Like I said...I'm not an expert but the logic is there. I have raised buff orpingtons for years and always fed them 16 purina layena or TSC with no problems. But based on the recommendations from the breeder of the ISA's and talking to others, some on this site I believe the additional protein is good damage prevention.

well that's all well and good, but you kind of missed the whole point of my post. It didn't matter which of the protein percentages I used from the local feed store (which sells the tucker milling) I had issues with shell problems on either one. Once I changed back to the TSC feed, I haven't had any more of the misshapen or funny looking or weak shells. Nothing to do with the protein levels, and everything to do with the manufacturer. it HAD to be the feed, the water source is the same, the habitat is the same, the only thing that changed was the feed......

Some of at one point in time were discussing how it appears to have more 'filler' and 'dust' in their feed, especially in the chick starter (the tucker milling)

OK, I'll restart the thread again! Good Morning everyone! I just got diagnosed with Lyme's disease. So begins 3 weeks of antibiotics (with a side order of probiotics) At least I know why I was having all sorts of joint and muscle pains. My ultrasound revealed a chronically inflamed thyroid (Hashimotos disease = autoimmune disease) That is not a surprise since I have been on thyroid medicine for 25 years or so..... But, feeling good and loving life!

OMG Flower!? I'm so sorry! That really stinks.

Geez, I'm not dying!!!
