YO GEORGIANS! :)

No clue how much they'll go for! This will be my first time going to one.

I had the computer fan, but my mistake was trying to run it off of a battery. I bought a 12volt adaptor off Amazon and it should be here Monday. Going to give it one more try, and if I can't get a better ratio with the fan I'm giving up on this one and buying/making a cabinet incubator.

I got one of the fans on amazon that came w/ a USB plug - I think it was $6. With that you can plug it into an extra iphone or android USB plug adaptor. Its been great so far.

On a related note - what did you do with the humidity when you put the chicks on lockdown? I bump it from 50% to 65%. I've always had most all make to hatch if they made it to lock down. What I have seen (with one of my first batches before I got the fan) is that the outside of the bator is a few degrees lower than the center - so those eggs took longer to hatch (22/23 days).

If you had 3/4 make it to lock-down and not hatch - you may have had something other than temperature.

I realize some of my girls are getting under the house, I bet there is a boat load of eggs under there, I keep the crawl space cracked so my outside cats can go under there if they want and they must have told the girls, hey it's cooler under here that under you chicken house.

Here are my beautiful babies

Aren't these the most beautiful babies you have ever seen

Adorable, happy-looking girls!

These kitties are so sweet!! I love a good rescue story. Both of my dogs are rescues too, they're the best. I really want an outdoor cat - my DW is too allergic to have one in the house, but I'm hoping one adopts my garage/barn thing and I can take care of him or her.
I'm allergic to cats too, it's the dander, which is dried saliva from them constantly grooming themselves, give it a bath, and the body will get used to the rest oh they make claratin by the boat loads, lol, my eyes puff up so much, can't breath fell yucky, but getting better, love my cats so much, when I get too bad go to the doc for steroids shots, and kitties get a bath every 2 weeks. Yep I do sleep with the cats, I'm my own worst enemy, doc says get rid of cats, nope can't do that!!! DH just shakes his head. Cockateils are the worst there isn't getting used to them, ducks in the back of the car aren't too good either, lol

I jacked the humidity up to 50/60% sometimes it all the way up to 80%, but that was usually when I had to open the lid for some reason and misted it.

I ran it dry up until day 17/18 because the air cells were looking a little small. It stayed about 30% through early incubation. Towards the end of incubation I turned the fan in our room off and filled the water reservoir.

The only other thing I did was lay the eggs down for hatching (I was trying to keep the chicks all separated by variety in their own little divided areas. It didn't work though, they still jumped the walls.) But all the eggs I cracked the chicks seemed to be in the correct position to pip normally. When I candled them all prior to cracking them open, mostly the air cells were the correct size and position too. There were two eggs with weird air cells, and those were some of the earliest quitters in the batch.

The temperature variance is the only thing I can think of it being, because it's always that one small area that hatches. It's a Little Giant incubator, though and that brand isn't particularly known for its incubation success rate, from what I understand.

I got the 12v converter in the mail and patched it to my fan last night. It seems to work great, I just need to put electrical tape on it and we're good to go. Going to throw some more eggs in the incubator tonight and see what happens. I don't NEED 24 more chicks, but I want to replicate this hatch as closely as possible. For science, you know. ;)

I have always kept it between 45% and 50% for the first 17 days and raised it to 65% for lockdown - not sure if thats the difference, but 30% seems a bit low.

I've seen varying opinions on humidity, the only constant I've seen between different hatching guides is that the end humidity should be 15-25% higher than the starting. Usually I judge by the air-cell size. If the air cells are where they should be at the time of candling, I leave the humidity alone. If they seem too big, I increase it to slow evaporation in the egg. This time all the air cells seemed a little on the small side, so I didn't add humidity at all until the last days.

We'll know for sure after this hatch I think though, because the fan should eliminate hot/cold spots thus ruling out temperature as a factor. If the same zone of chicks hatch, or same rate of chicks hatch, then we know for sure it wasn't the temperature.

I'm excited to figure this conundrum out!

@Flowerbh
He's not quite as big as Beau yet, but he's getting there! Loving this gorgeous boy.

Is there anybody on here want a brown leghorn rooster he is five months old and a beautiful bird but I have seven roosters and 21 hens and he was voted one to go I want 10$ for him

Is anyone insterested in a silkie/cochin mix bantam rooster? Sir Sylvia is in need of a new, good home. He's a good rooster, will puff out his chest to attempt intimidation, but not too aggressive. I have no issues cleaning the coop, refilling food around him. We recently got a new batch of chicks and so far two are already roosters, so it's time to start re homing! Not 100% sure of his breed. I was told silkie when he was a chick, but he isn't as silkiey as my others. He does have the black skin, feather feet, 5 toes, and blue earlobes. He is bantam and is 2 1/2 years old. He is a very good roo to his hens!

Located inside the perimeter, east side of town near Decatur. For fun, here is a video of him "playing" with my dog: https://goo.gl/photos/gaWuBRZ8zo4TqB2g8
