YO GEORGIANS! :)

So last week I put some eggs under my broody and they're not looking good. Something is inside them, but no movement or blood vessels are apparent.

I also have some chicks that hatched last week....
I know she won't be ready to accept chicks yet, but do y'all think she would take them if I put them under her next week or the following one? They would be 2-3 weeks old then.

When I introduced my other hen with her chick this past spring, my silky who's broody now actually took over and helped Co-parent the chick even though she hadn't been broody at the time. Thoughts?

It depends on the hen, slip them under her when you can and watch her closely if she figures out they are not hers she will kill them, but you will be able to figure it out if she like them or not, if the chicks are huddled in an opposite corner then you know to remove them.

I don't think I would put chicks that old under a hen. Day olds maybe, but not older.

That's what I was thinking too. The only reason I'm even considering it is because the hen in question, while not broody, stole and Co-parented a 1-2 week old chick last time I had broody hatched chicks, even though they were hatched by a different hen.

I might try it anyway and see what she does, but I'm definitely going to keep the brooder running.

Thanks, I think I'm going to bring her in for a while and then try it. Hopefully she'll accept them. It'll make integrating them into the flock much easier.

Ugh! If these newbies don't start laying soon (they are 6-7 months old), I'm gonna start squeezing them to see if I can't get something to drop out!!!! hahhahahahha!

Where is everyone?????

I know, right?? My only newbie that started laying is the Leghorn mixed SBEL! Not even my wellsummers are laying and I know they should be because Papa Chas has their 'sisters' and his are laying! Lazy freeloaders! ;)
