Hooray!
Such a beautiful selection of colors too! Is it all your older hens laying or are the younger ones joining in too?

@Flowerbh do you hatch frizzles? They are so adorable!! I realized this past weekend I have just enough wood left from building the coop that I can build a nursery/grow-out/hospital pen. But, wouldn't get any chicks until Spring. Just curious.

Both. New and oldies. Even got some more newbies today. Very excited about finally getting eggs. Of course, the farmers market is about over. So, if they all start laying again, what will I do with all the eggs! What?, did you suggest hatching them?.. Ummm, good idea!
If you decide to try it again and want to sell some chicks in the spring, let me know!! Pretty sure Naked Necks would be shunned by my prissy flock though...lol!I do try to hatch frizzles. I have the two frizzle EEs and have several frizzled Naked Necks. I am thinking about getting some fun eggs from ebay. May be hatching soon.![]()
Well, my chickens have now been on their diet for about 2 1/2 weeks. For the past month I have only gotten 0-3 eggs a day! (from 50 hens!) Well, today I actually got 5 eggs! Two from hens who haven't laid in a while! LOL.
No.. I guess I'm just one of those nuts who go out every other hour and gather eggs. Thru the years, I have grown to know which egg belongs to which bird. That's because all my chickens are different and most the eggs are different. Some have a certain hue to them, some are shaped differently.....like my Polish lays a long shaped white egg, the Minorca lays a more oval white egg. My frizzled NN, Sunnie, lays a blue egg but hers has a little rough area over the top.....like little bumps.....every time. My black frizzle NN lays a nice olive green egg. They all have little things about them. I do have trouble with some of the brown egg layers. But, my cochin lays a brown egg that is almost symmetrical. Can't always tell the top with the bottom. My Marans have different size and colored eggs......So, I can match most eggs with their mom.... Other than that, I watch during the day who is in the nests.Just curious, how do you know which hens laid out of 50? Are they separated out somehow?
