YO GEORGIANS! :)

Today the State "vet ordered a suspension of poultry exhibitions, shows, sales (auction markets, flea markets), swaps and meets. Due to the presence of HPAI in neighboring states."

What does that mean for individuals? One on one practicing bio-security?

Does that mean Georgia is going to shut down mail-order chicks and eggs entering the state?

This flustered newbie is now wondering how the heck all this works?:/

That's scary considering our yard stays full of wild geese and our ducks mingle with them!

They probably already require incoming poultry to be NPIP so maybe there won't be an issue.

I'm getting a little concerned because I have some silver-lace orpington eggs that I'm supposed to fetch in Alabama next week, and I don't want the deal to not happen. I'm going to call the breeder tomorrow morning to make sure everything is still a go, but this potential quarantine has me a bit nervous. I also have some crele orpington eggs I'm picking up from a breeder in GA next week, but I think I should be in the clear on that one. I'll be VERY disappointed if either of these arrangements fall through.

I was just talking with my husband about this sort of thing. We came to the conclusion that GA Dept. of Agriculture doesn't have time to follow folks around on suspicion of violating the suspension order. They're busy enough doing their jobs on and for big commercial farms. There was some suspension of poultry movement in northern AL earlier in the week, so yeah, call your breeder and make sure everything is in the clear.

I think I just got a little panicky when I first saw word of the order.
