I think I found my answer in a round-about way. I did a search regarding what a poultry suspension in Alabama would entail. I came across an Alabama farmer's market document from 2009 that quoted the Alabama Department of Agriculture regarding egg sales. Alabama has an "Alabama Egg Shell Law," and there are strict rules if eggs are sold at a farmer's market; however, “if the producer [breeder/farmer] wishes to sell eggs from his home/farm, they are not required to do anything." In other words, the private sales of eggs from one's homestead or farm is not regulated. Here is the URL where I found the information: http://www.fma.alabama.gov/PDFs_NEW/Shell_Eggs.pdfWould eggs be included in the order? Can an egg get the flu? Or would the virus be able to survive on the shell and be transmitted?
Anyway, I'll have to wait until tomorrow to hear what the breeder has to say. Hopefully it's good news.
