YO GEORGIANS! :)

I was just talking with my husband about this sort of thing. We came to the conclusion that GA Dept. of Agriculture doesn't have time to follow folks around on suspicion of violating the suspension order. They're busy enough doing their jobs on and for big commercial farms. There was some suspension of poultry movement in northern AL earlier in the week, so yeah, call your breeder and make sure everything is in the clear.

I think I just got a little panicky when I first saw word of the order.

This is very true. I am in Maryland and I drove down to VA to pick up some turkeys last January. I found AFTERWARDS that that a poultry movement restriction was in order in the state of Maryland. But its not like there are border police lining all the roads coming in and out trying to enforce it.

brucifer, will you be keeping all the silver lace orph's?

If I have a good hatch, I won't be keeping them all. :fl  Ideally, I hope to keep three or four pullets and one or two cockerels. I will sell or trade the extras. The good news is that the breeder texted me this morning, and he stated that the suspension in Alabama does not cover chicks or eggs, so I will pick the eggs up this Thursday. :celebrate

I already have too many chocolate orp and FBCM cockerels, so I will most likely sell or trade those sometime next month. The buff orps from my last hatch are too young to sex right now, so I'll have to wait on those, and I will be keeping all of BBS orps from that hatch.

I'm actually more excited about the crele orps than the silver-laced. Although all the LF (including the orpingtons) are supposed to be my project, my wife is really fond of the SLO, so we're adding them to the flock as well.

I'm interested ...so let me know if you don't mind

I have a chick!!!! I thought it was the TV but paid attention and no chirping so I went to investigate and I have a bantam chick hatched, wow so early they are not supposed to hatch till Sat, and I put it in lock down yesterday, Wed. I know they can hatch early but wow that is early
it's all black and still wet, it's gotta stay to encourage the others to come out to play

Congratulations!

Nothing like an early bird to get your juices going. I know your weekend is now planned for you...lol

Last week I had some buff orpingtons and silkies in the same hatcher, and one of the buffs popped out two days early and a day ahead of the first silkie. That was a bit of a shocker. That chick is doing great.

I hope the rest of your hatch goes well.

Question: My broody was sitting on eggs and apparently another hen went in and laid an egg in the nest and in the process, cracked one of the hatching eggs. Goo is all over the other hatching eggs. I know that bacteria can set in and kill all the embryos, so what do I do. Should I try to wash them, knowing that that takes away the protective 'bloom' or leave them as is. I have known people who wash their eggs before they try to hatch them, but I have never done this. It almosts seems like the eggs are doomed either way, but washing them may be the best route. What do you guys think??
