YO GEORGIANS! :)

Marsh is the one who loves the "wittle bwack chickens"---and he loves Minnie Mouse, hence... :)

We did not know we had a spitzhauben until the alleged silver laced polish wasn't... do you remember me asking if I had a poor SLP or what? I think we actually have a completely different bird. The golden laced looking one hatched from a Crele Polish egg and I know it is what it is---Her top hat is still coming in, but the breeder said a certain percentage of her birds hatch expressing for gold or partridge.

Do not feel like you have to take any shirts! I do not plan on losing any sleep over them! But, if Lisa is in town, I'd love to hear from her! Thanks!!!

Yes, I remember you asking the identity of the mystery chick. Sometimes chicks from one breed can look identical to a different breed, but I'd be very surprised if your crele polish isn't a Golden-Spangled Spitzhauben. However, I could be wrong. It wouldn't the first time. :p

A good place to make comparisons with chicks that you have is the Cackle Hatchery website. They post photos from egg to adult on all the breeds they sell. If you check the Rare Breed Chickens section, look at the photos under "Golden Spangled Appenzeller Spitzhauben Chicken." Although Cackle doesn't sell Crele Polish chicks, they sell Golden-Laced Polish which is pretty close, so you can compare those photos as well. As for Spitzhauben, sometimes the crests will spill over the sides like the crests of Polish chickens, but usually the frocks of crest feathers are tighter, ideally pointing backward as the chickens mature.

Regarding the t-shirts, if they were ugly, had pink glitter, were embroidered with purple sequins, or had obnoxious, cutesy lettering; then I wouldn't have offered to buy more. But, we think you did a great job on them.

Haha!! I expect the lady who I bought the crele eggs from would be super surprised if it were a spitz since she doesn't keep that breed. I'm going to keep my eye on that little golden lady though especially as my 6 week old chicks who are legitimately gl polish feather out.

The silver suspected spitz has the reverse color pattern of my bantam SL polish which is initially what tipped me off.

Just so happy the chicken math worked this weekend! I'm officially down by 2!

Like I said, I could be wrong, and I probably am since you know where the breeder got her eggs. However, take a look at the similarities of your chicks with a couple of six-week-old golden-spangled spitzhauben that I have in a juvi brooder:

'Well, I filled my incubator! 54 eggs in a 42 capacity incubator! LOL! My friend brought me 10 purebred Crested Cream Legbar eggs on top of all those I got at the swap! I will candle them at around 5-7 days and will probably then have the right space. Until then, I will rotate the eggs around so all will have an equal opportunity in the turner.

Today was clean-up day! Since I sold all my babies, I had to clean several cages/brooders! Seems so strange to not have babies in the garage! I do still have the three baby ducks I hatched 4 days ago.

The KC duck I got from Jack just went right into the same aged Runner Ducks I have like she has belonged there all her life. She stayed with them all day all over the yard. Definitely a female since my adult Runner duck nailed her right off......which pretty much leads me to have to acknowledge that my 4 baby runners are all boys since my adult R duck is not the least bit interested in them and I still am not hearing one quack! Bummer! I will have to choose which one I will be keeping. There are two that I really like more than the others. So, just have to decide. Maybe keep the two to see how their personalities develop.

The shed I'm converting into a coop has a window, so I'm installing one of these units. I found several of these on OfferUp for $10. I'm not looking to create a wind tunnel, just enough air circulation to compensate for still-air and/or hot days/nights.

funny thing I just got a fan just like that for free...and that is what I'm gonna use!

I get what you're saying. Brownie has the funny incoming crest but her feathering looks more traditionally laced.

I did not know there were golden appenzeller spitzhaubens. You know what I'll want next!!
