YO GEORGIANS! :)

Yea, the rain made a mucky mess of our runs, too. Went in and put 3 inches of sand, then topped that off with 3 inches of wood shavings. Then, sprinkled DE all over. Soooo much better! Even with the rain, it is cleaner! No mucky mess, just damp sand! My hens must like it a lot better, too...more eggs today than in a long time! An finally, my Welsummer has started relaying eggs! She was broody, sat on eggs for 21 days, played mom for a week until we sold her babies and then was depressed to the next 3 weeks....So what, 7 weeks without eggs from her. Glad to add her terra cotta eggs back into my basket of colored eggs! AND, one of my Naked Necks has started squatting! New eggs soon. They should be some sort of green!

HELP PLEASE>>> I picked up two chicks from a local breeder Sunday. I believe they are 2-3wks "a sizzle & a frizzle" both have 5 toes one has black skin the other white. The white skinned frizzle is doing great, very active and has already learned how to use the nipple waterer. Her companion now has a fluid filled sack the size of a small walnut on her chest. When I massage it she throw up clear no smelling water. She wont use the nipple waterer, she is eating she has no pasty butt, she has clear eyes. What ever this is on her chest is draining her though, she is not as active as the other. HELPPPP any advice is greatly appreciated.

I have some precious Bantam silver laced Cochins that are a week old for sale. I also have some LF Brahma/Amer mix that hatched tonight for sale. PM me if you're interested.

I don't think they are show quality but will make a beautiful addition to a backyard flock as pets.

Well, I had 6 Brahma mixes but now I have four. I snuck some eggs under a broody last night she seemed to accept them fine. Went back an hour later, still fine. An hour after that...still fine. I thought everything was ok...boy was I wrong. I heard the "alarm call" and went to check on things. She had cracked one out of the shell that still has yolk attached (they were due to hatch yesterday). One chick she just mauled. I don't think I can save either one. I may have to cull them. The worst one is lethargic but will chirp when I move it. The other one is very alert and trying to move around. I'm not sure what to do. My husband says cull them both along with the hen. I wish I had checked a couple more times or listened to my children when they told me this was a very bad idea:( guess who is going to be so upset when they wake up if I don't cull them and they see them like that? My kids. So upset with myself and the hen right now.

How is your chick today? I don't know what is wrong with your chick, but it may have sour crop. If it is still sick, I would post it on the thread that talks about illnesses. I think in any case, massaging it is a good idea. Good luck.

Do you think there is anything that can be done to save the one with yolk attached? They tummy looks closed up. What is attached looks like about the size of a marble. I have it in the brooder. Should I put it back I the incubator? I have pine shavings in the brooder and it seems to stick to it. I could cover the wire with a warm damp rag and put back in. I don't know it is in the "sick brooder" now. Any suggestions?

I would. Keep it moist so it can go back in if it hasn't dried up yet.
