YO GEORGIANS! :)

On a more somber note, Lisa lost her Patridge Silkie boyfriend, Biff, sometime last night, so she was in tears this morning. He was Christopher's Silkie, so he wasn't happy about it either. This was one of those cases where a seemingly healthy, happy bird just drops dead for no apparent reason. He had a pen to himself, and was happy as a clam. When Lisa greeting him yesterday afternoon, as usual, he was so happy to see her; he dropped his wing and started hopping towards her sideways, doing his little happy dance. She found him lifeless in his pen this morning. This is the second favorite that she has lost in the past few months. :(
:hitSo sorry, I lost a baby and my beautiful year old Drake, a Blue Swedish 2 weeks ago to Coons and the other 2 were so sad they just walked around squawking for 3 days.

I had some pretty good news this week! In addition to coming into 6 extra eggs to hatch, I had some advice/guidance on sexing my white crested blue/splash polish. I had thought they were all male, but it looks like I have 2 pullets for a good trio. I decided not to pursue breeding this particular color of polish, but it certainly makes them more marketable if I have to part with them---if only because it's easier to get rid of ladies!! :)

I'm sorry. Seems to always be the favorites that go first. :(

Well we think our barred rock is a hen, but her tail feathers a little suspect. She is 5 months and her comb and waddles are small and pink. So fingers crossed it is a hen. Does anyone know about the sexlink? We have two a red and a black. The red as we call her is an Ostrich...has been big from the beginning...dwarfed all the chicks of the same age and no one messes with her. She has tiny pink waddles and comb, and hen tail feathers so we are pretty sure she is a hen, but she is a stinker. Nosy, talks all the time and follows us everywhere. Loves to be held. The black sexlink has a beautiful head and neck of a brownish gold and the rest of her is black but her tail feathers do not look like a hen is that normal? Ok so here you go hens or roosters?
Those are females. Except maybe the red one in the back. I couldn't see it so well. With a black sexlink, the males looks like female striped barred rocks, the females black. Your's looks like an easter egger though? With a barred rocks the white stripes dominate and come in sooner, a female has black stripes that dominate. They are super easy to tell when you have one next to the other. I don't know about the red sex links. I /think/ the males are yellow as chicks and the females are red, but I'm not positive.

I want to throw this offer out to those of you who love to hatch. Lisa is picking up show-quality Silkie hatching eggs tomorrow from one of her breeder friends in Alabama. Our handsome Bearded Blue Silkie came from this breeder's hatching eggs. The hatching eggs will be a mix of either BBS, Blue-Creme, Gray, Paint, Partridge, and/or White, so it's somewhat of a grab bag as you what you will get. That makes the hatch more fun with an added element of surprise!

Anyway, normally this breeder's hatching eggs go for $60 per dozen, but Lisa is getting them for $18 per dozen. She can pick up on dozen more for someone at that price, but you'll have to come to the Villa Rica area to get them sometime this Sunday. Just to be clear, Lisa is getting a dozen for herself, and she will get one dozen for someone else. Sorry for the late notice, but I was just informed of Lisa's plan this afternoon! Let me know if you're interested. Here's a couple of photos I just took of Blue:

(He looks more handsome right after a bath and blow dry.)

It's freaking hot!!! But I think I've got everyone covered...a pool for the dogs, a pool for the girls and a huge fan for us as kb cuts down trees and Perry and I work on the coop...
