Ok, BYC friends, I need your advice/thoughts. I have a rooster that is white and black and has the green/blue egg gene. My second rooster is a beautiful Blue Laced Red Wyandotte. He has great coloring, is extremely slow feathering (which is suppose to be a good thing) and is nice. He is only 19 weeks old. He still does not crow. I also have a 6 week old Crested Cream Legbar X White Leghorn roo (will have blue egg gene). My goals with chickens are to have different colored eggs and some beautiful chickens. I have one of many breeds.
I have someone who wants to buy the BLRW for $20. My thoughts were always to find as good of a hen to breed with on a small scale and sell the chicks since they are in high demand. So, do I sell the BLRW or keep him to breed. I had posted photos of him a while back on the BLRW thread and got great reviews on him. I worry about having more than one rooster. Don't they beat each other up? How do you deal with separating them when you only want one rooster over a certain hen? Do you just keep them locked up together for a certain period of time and collect those eggs. I know all about the time you need before and during changing roosters, etc. I think the BLRW would add more fun colors to the chicks than just the white and black one. Is it a hassle to keep them separated when wanting to collect eggs? Oh, I don't know, maybe I will keep him around a few more weeks and see what happens.
Do you guys have trouble with more than one rooster? We have about 20 pullets/hens and they usually free range all day. Do I want to keep the white 6 week old roo that carries the blue egg gene? Ugg, I can't decide. Any advice?
